Physicals and Exams

physicals-exams

Each day, we perform various types of physicals – ranging from physicals needed to play sports and attend summer camp to a return to work physical. Many times, when you apply for a new job, or even apply for college, a physical is required. Our doctors are qualified to administer and complete most physicals needed. Unfortunately, we do not perform disability determination examinations.

When coming to your appointment for a physical, please do not forget to bring any forms or documentation to be completed.

Annual Physical Exams

To ensure your optimal good health, we recommend that people of all ages visit their doctor once a year for an annual wellness visit. Most insurance companies waive usual co-payments for these visits; so, just bring your current insurance card, your proof of ID and all your current medications (including all vitamins and supplements) to your appointment. Plan to spend some time with us!

During your exam, the following will take place:

  • Vitals are taken (height, weight and blood pressure), vision & hearing screen
  • All body systems will be checked by the provider
  • May order blood tests to check for infection, iron level or cholesterol level
  • Will order health maintenance services such as mammography, colonoscopy, and osteoporosis (DXA) scan
  • May do a rectal exam (for men)
  • May perform a more comprehensive female exam (for women)

You might also want to write down any questions you have for the doctor, and bring any paperwork that needs to be completed.

Employment and Commercial Driver's Physicals

In today’s society, many employers require a physical as part of their hiring process. Employers use these physicals to help prevent excessive employee absenteeism and reduces Worker’s Compensation costs.

If you drive a commercial vehicle, you will be required to pass a commercial driver's license physical (CDL).

School & Sports Physicals

School physicals are generally required when placing children into day care, attending summer camp, joining an organization such as Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, or applying to nursing or medical school. Sports physicals are required to participate in any school-related sport, including cheerleading.

With these types of physicals, there is usually a specific form that needs to be filled out. Please bring that form with you to your appointment. During the exam, your height, weight and possibly your blood pressure will be recorded. The doctor will check all of the systems in your body, and if necessary, will conduct a hearing screening if required by the school.
